Terms of service
Please read these before you use homeVPN.
Effective date: to be set before publication
These terms govern your use of homeVPN ("the service") provided by SecureSS ("we"). By using the service you accept them.
1. What the service is
- The service consists of an application and a connection service that let two or more devices of your own connect to each other: one left at your home, and one or more that you carry.
- We do not provide VPN servers. Traffic passes directly between your devices and leaves through your home line.
- You provide the device you leave at home and the internet connection it uses.
2. Who may use it
- The service is for you and members of your household.
- You may not let anyone else use your home line through the service, whether by lending it, reselling it, or contributing it to a shared network.
- You are responsible for checking that leaving a device connected at home is permitted by your internet provider's terms.
3. Devices
- One subscription covers 5 devices. You can add more one at a time. Prices and billing periods are those shown when you buy.
- Reducing the number of extra devices takes effect from the next renewal. While you are over the limit you can no longer add devices; devices already paired are not removed by us.
- Devices are added by scanning a code shown on the phone at home. Anyone who photographs that code can pair their own device. Take care with it. You can remove a paired device from the phone at home at any time.
4. Payment
- The service is sold as a subscription, in plans of 1 month, 6 months and 1 year. Prices are those shown when you buy.
- Payment is taken by Google Play when you subscribe in the app, and by Stripe when you subscribe on this site. Buying, paying, cancelling and refunds follow that provider's rules.
- The free trial lasts seven days and is available once per person.
- If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the plan you chose is charged, and renews automatically for each period.
- Changing plan during the trial neither extends nor shortens it.
5. Cancelling
- Cancel where you subscribed: in Google Play if you subscribed in the app, or through this site if you subscribed here. See cancelling.
- You may keep using the service until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Part-used periods are not refunded. Whether a refund is possible is decided by the payment provider.
6. What you may not do
- Break the law, or use the service against public order.
- Let anyone else use the service or your home line (see 2.2).
- Use the service to intercept other people's communications, impersonate others, or gain unauthorised access.
- Take apart, alter or redistribute the app, or connect by means we do not provide.
- Place an unreasonable load on the connection service.
- Anything else we reasonably consider improper.
7. Interruption, change and withdrawal
- We may interrupt the service, in whole or in part and without notice, for maintenance, for faults, or because of the external services we rely on.
- We may change the service or stop providing it. If we stop, we will give notice here where we can.
8. Limits of our responsibility
- We do not guarantee that a connection will succeed, nor its speed or quality. Your home line, your devices, your carrier and the networks in between all affect it.
- We are not responsible when the service cannot be used because of a power cut, a line fault, or the device at home failing, running out of battery, or being stopped by its operating system.
- We are not responsible for damage to your devices, for lost data, or for your electricity and data charges.
- Our liability is limited in every case to the amount you paid for the most recent billing period, except where we have acted with intent or gross negligence.
9. Personal information
Personal information and traffic are handled as set out in the privacy policy.
10. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. A changed version takes effect when it is published here. We will give notice in advance, with a date, for changes that matter.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Japan. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the court with jurisdiction over our place of business, as the court of first instance.
