What you need
A spare Android phone
Left at home, plugged into power, on your home Wi-Fi. An old phone you no longer use is enough.
The phone you carry
The Android device you take with you. The two are paired once, by scanning a code.
Nothing else
No server to rent, no subscription to a VPN provider, no router settings to change.
Why a phone at home, not a data centre
A real home address
Commercial VPNs and rented servers give you a data-centre address. Streaming services, banks and ticketing sites often block those. Your traffic leaves through your own home line instead.
We carry none of it
We run no VPN servers. Your two phones connect directly to each other, and the tunnel between them is encrypted end to end.
For your own devices only
Only devices you have paired yourself can use your home line. There is no way to offer it to strangers, and your line never carries anyone else's traffic.
Setting it up
- Install homeVPN on the phone you will leave at home and switch it to home mode.
- Install homeVPN on the phone you carry.
- Pair the two by scanning a code shown on the phone at home.
- Tap connect. You are on your home line.
Good to know
The phone at home has to stay powered and online for you to connect. Your speed is limited by the upload speed of your home line. Some mobile networks make a direct connection impossible; when that happens the app tells you why instead of failing silently.
